The Onewheel Brand
The idea for Onewheel was born when Canadian engineer Kyle Doerksen, inspired by his passion for snowboarding and skateboarding, sought a new way to experience the feeling of boarding on his daily commute. After moving to California, he began to turn this dream into reality. He experimented nights and weekends in his garage until he invented the first Onewheel prototype with chain drive, the “Old Iron Slides,” in 2008. Over the years, the construction was refined, improving handling, maneuverability, and the motor until the original Onewheel was completed in 2013. In 2014, a successful Kickstarter campaign raised the necessary capital for mass production of the first Onewheel model. The response was overwhelming, and the product quickly gained attention in the tech and boarder community. Future Motion is proud to build every Onewheel in San Jose, California. The focus of future innovations is on integrating smart features, improved safety mechanisms, and sustainable materials.
